- Product Review: Manzano Banana
- Price: $1.79 / lb
- Rating: 👎 Thumbs Down
I recently spotted Manzano bananas at a local Asian market. This was my first time seeing this variety, and I was curious to give it a try, especially since there wasn’t much information available online.
What intrigued me most was the unique name, taste, and color. Here’s what I discovered about this uncommon banana variety.
Appearance |
Short, chubby, and thick-skinned, with a golden yellow color that turns almost black when ripe
|
Taste |
Sweet and tart, with a hint of apple and strawberry
|
Texture |
Creamy and dense when ripe
|
Nutrition |
Good source of fiber and potassium
|
It wasn’t quite what I expected. I waited for it to ripen, hoping it would turn a deep brownish-black as suggested, but even then, it didn’t taste great. It was neither soft nor sweet, and the texture was flaky, almost tough enough that peeling the skin was difficult. There was no hint of strawberry or apple flavor—more like an unripe banana. I gave it a few more days, but the taste and texture stayed the same. Fortunately, I only bought three, so it wasn't too much of a loss. Maybe it was the brand or the quality; I’m not sure, but I won’t be buying it again.
Have you tried this type of banana? We'd love to hear about your experience!
