Full Review:
During my recent visit to Apna Bazar in Iselin, NJ, I stumbled upon a large sign advertising Mexican Mangoes. Being a mango enthusiast, I was excited to try this variety. The mangoes emitted a strong, sweet fragrance that was quite enticing—a rarity since most mangoes displayed at the front of grocery stores usually lack any aroma.
Interestingly, the mangoes were labeled as "Treated by Irradiatio." A quick search on Chatgpt and Google revealed that "irradiatio" translates to "irradiation," a process using ionizing radiation like gamma rays to sterilize insects and extend the fruit's shelf life. While I had some initial reservations about the safety of this treatment, I decided to give them a try. Pretty much everything in USA is proccessed.
At $2.99 per pound, these mangoes are a bit pricey, especially compared to the days when you could get them for $1 each or a whole box for $5.99. Nevertheless, inflation has driven prices up, and buying by the pound feels different from buying by the piece.
Now, let's talk about the mango itself. The size was impressive, the color—both outside and inside—was just right, and the texture and flavor were fantastic. These mangoes were incredibly juicy and delightful.
In summary, despite the higher price and the irradiation treatment, these Mexican Mangoes are sweet, fragrant, and deliciously juicy!
